If I were to give you a choice of about $110 million dollars to be in the playoffs and have a chance to win the World Series or $121 million and be out of it in July with an ERA around 6.00 and a losing record, what would you say? This may be a slight exaggeration, but atmosphere in Colorado is not exactly a pitcher's paradise. Hapton's choices were St. Louis (NL Divisional Champs), New York, (NL Champs), Atlanta (NL East Division Champs), and Colorado(82-80, 4th place in the NL West, 15 games out of first place). All four finalist offered enough money for a comfortable lifestyle. I would like to add that Hampton was not exactly the best team player, constantly complaining about everything. I do not believe that I saw Hampton smile once all of last season. After Mets GM Steve Phillips had been notified that New York was not Hampton's choice, he told some of the players who immediately phones Hampton. The players did not receive any responce, which shows a tremendous amount of disrespect for his former teamates. Hampton's Contract is the highest total package in the 4 major sports, beating Kevin Garnett's deal. Look for that to change in the next few days as Manny Ramierez and of course Alex Rodriguez sign. Now that Hampton and Ashby are gone, the Mets need to pull of a deal for a solid pitcher. In the near future look for the Mets to land Dustin Hermanson. Looking the Steve Phillip's eyes, he will go after Kevin Appier, a washed up 33 year old, who has had his better days behind him. Well at least we get to see Hampton get rocked next year in Colorado
