After the news that Mike Hampton had signed with Colorado, Steve Phillips went to work to try and find someone on the free agent market to replace him. After finding noone he decided to overpay for 33 year old Kevin Appier. Signing him to a 4 year $42 million contract. Let's keep in mind that right now Appier has injury problems at 33, now lets imagine how he will be when he is 37. Also today, the Mets acquired Steve Trachsel. He is a sub .500 career pitcher will an ERA above 4. He is an insult to what is going on with the Mets right now. If he is used in long relief, then their is no problem, but if he is a starter, the Mets may be in a for a long season. On a positive note, the Mets made a trade to acquire Donne Wall, a solid middle inning relief pitcher. This means that the Mets have too many relief pitchers and are going to trade one (hopefully). Look to see Johnny Damon in Right Field next year.
