The Mets are looking at David Wells to hopefully replace Mike Hampton. After missing out of one of the best pitchers blessed with an awfull team, Dustin Hermanson, they need to make a move to acquire a quality Ace. A pitching rotation of Leiter-Reed-Appier-Rusch-Trachsel is not World Series worthy. Although the Blue Jays say that there is nothing to the speculation, I still can see Steve Phillips pulling off a deal to acquire the ace veteran. I am not making this a prediction but I would deffinately like to see a deal for Wells. The only hesitation I see for the Mets on attaining Wells, is his heavy ERA. Wells finished the season with an ERA above 4.00, but with a winning record. Keep in mind that the Blue Jays had such a powerfull lineup, which hit the most homeruns in baseball. If the Mets are to acquire Wells, according to the Blue Jays GM, it will be at a high price. Expect to see Alex Escobar and/or Grant Roberts and/or a relief pitcher. |
