Latest Update on Wells

Mets are still in the hunt for a replacement for Hampton

As of Monday, the Mets were supposedly going to attempt a three team trade, which would send Jay Payton to the Rockies along with Glendon Rusch. The Mets would receive David Wells and the Blue Jays would receive Pedro Astacio from the Rockies. This trade has supposedly fallen through and a new deal is in the works.

This new deal would most likely be a 2 team deal sending Glendon Rusch to the Blue Jays. Keep in mind that altough Rusch was the number 4/5 starter for the Mets last season, his ERA was below that of David Wells.

The Blue Jays are looking for some young prospects which are being offered by Cleveland. For the Mets to make this deal look for some young talent to be involved.

If the Mets are to trade Jay Payton, which is being discussed right now, I hope that they are serious about acquiring Johnny Damon. This would move Timo to Center and put Damon in right. The only question mark is what Timo will we see. Will we see the early playoff Timo Perez or the World Series Timo, where he hit around .100.
